ILHA DO MEL/Paraná

O tempo não ajudou. Foram quatro dias de céu nublado e chuviscos, mas mesmo assim pudemos aproveitar e conhecer as belezas do Ilha do Mel e sua "vizinha" - Ilha das Peças.

A Ilha do Mel fica no Paraná, próximo a Paranaguá. O lugar apresenta uma beleza natural incrível (que poderia ficar mais encantadora com o sol, mas...). São praias, com morros em volta, cercados por uma bela vegetação e algumas pedras para dar um toque a mais na aventura. Sem dizer nos nossos queridos golfinhos que sempre dão o ar da graça, as gaivotas (ou seriam "gaviotas" - Karin, por favor nos ajude!) e claro, a Nikita e a Carol - os mascotes do grupo e da pousada onde estávamos! (e quase o caso amoroso do guia).

Importante!!! Os pernilongos, mosquitos e mutucas também fazem parte da fauna local!

Por ter sido uma viagem em grupo, era fundamental uma harmonia com todos e isso, definitivamente, não faltou. Foi muito divertido conhecer/conviver com todo o pessoal nesses quatro dias (espero que em breve possamos nos encontrar novamente para uma nova viagem).

The weather was not good. Four days with grey sky and few rainny moments (Brad, does it remind you of somewhere? :), even though we could enjoy and see the beauty of Ilha do Mel and Ilha das Peças (Ilha means island).

Ilha do Mel is located in the state of Paraná - a state in the south of Brazil - near the Port of Paranagua. The place presents an amazing landscape (which would be even more impressive with the sun, however...). The beaches are surrounded by some hills which present a beautiful vegetation and some huge rocks - an special contribution to our adventure. We can´t forget our friends dolphins which were always surrounding our boat together with the seagulls and our special friends Carol (the duck) and Nikita (the dog) the pets from the hostel we were in.

Important!!! Mosquitos are part of the local fauna! :)

This was a group trip and the harmony among everybody was mandatory and it was really good. It was funny to know all those new people and share these four days.

CORDOBA

Não posso dizer que visitei Córdoba, afinal de contas, estive na cidade por algumas horas, mas no pouco tempo disponível, consegui captar algumas imagens da cidade.

Fiquei 3 dias na Argentina, na província de Córdoba, mas na cidade de Totoral. Em realidade, um vilarejo onde fui visitar uma fábrica e passei 2 dias e meio dentro dela e que não apresenta nada para fazer.

No último dia, já de volta à cidade de Córdoba propriamente dita, horas antes de ir ao aeroporto, fiz um tour para Alta Gracia - uma pequena cidade turística onde pudemos visitar uma igreja jesuíta do séc. XVII, a praça do relógio em frente à igreja e um belo lago, a casa onde Che Guevara passou sua infância e o museu de Falla, músico espanhol que viveu e morreu na Argentina.

Dado o curtíssimo tempo, não há muito o que relatar, apenas ressaltar que o pouco que vi me mostrou que vale a pena voltar e desvendar melhor Córdoba.

I can´t say I have visited Cordoba, as I stayed in the city just a few hours, but although the short time, I got some images from there.

In fact I stayed 3 days in Argentina, in Cordoba province, but most of the time in a village called Totoral. I was visiting a factory and I spent 2 days and half inside it, which was not that bad as there was nothing to do in Totoral.

In the last day, back to Cordoba city, a few hours before going to the airport, I made a tour to Alta Gracia - a turistic town where I could see Jesuit church from 17th century, as well the Clock Tower and its lake, Che Guevara childhood house and Falla´s Museum - a Spanish composer who lived and died in Argentina.

As it was a short term effect visit, I have not much to say about Cordoba, except that it is worth another visit to explore it better.

INGLATERRA / ENGLAND

INGLATERRA

Eu poderia ter feito este blog em outra oportunidade, mas desta vez tive as motivações necessárias: o meu tour pela Inglaterra e o blog do Brad, um australiano que conheci em Londres.

E por quê a Inglaterra? Bem, fui lá exatamente para descobrir o porquê, ou os porquês de tanto interesse meu por aquele país. E viajando descobri que a Inglaterra é um lugar intenso, cheio de história e referências, além de Londres.

Com uma grande mistura de cultura e pessoas - basta pegar o metrô em Londres para ouvir, ao mesmo tempo, pelo menos 3 idiomas diferentes além do Inglês, a Inglaterra é um lugar fascinante, pois cada cidade tem suas peculiaridades e remetem às suas influências distintas.
Londres e toda a sua agitação contrapõe-se a Canterbury e ambas nada tem a ver com Brighton ou Bath, só para citar alguns exemplos.

Fiquei em albergues a minha viagem toda e o pessoal de albergue tem outra energia. Fiz amizades: Sarah (Birmingham), Lindsay (Lancashire), Brad (Australia), Thu Ngyen (Vietnam), TG (China), Jessica, Nicky e Selina (Londres) sem contar alguns ilustres desconhecidos com quem conversei pelo caminho.

Com relação aos albergues, à exceção de Londres (Adamotel), Birmingham (Bailey), Brighton (St. Christopher) e Manchester (Hilton chambers) em todas as demais cidade fiquei nos albergues da juventude inglês - YHA. E recomendo com segurança.

O meu tour começa por Londres e depois segue para: Kent (Leeds Castle), Canterbury, Brighton, Salisbury-Stonehenge, Bath, Cotswolds (Stow-on-the-Water, Lower Slaughter), Birmingham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Liverpool, Manchester e York.

Foram 20 dias intensos. E as fotos a seguir mostram uma pequena parte de toda essa viagem.

ENGLAND
I could have done this blog before, but at this time, I got the right motivations: my English tour and Brad´s blog - an Australian guy I have met in London.

And why England? Well, I went there exactly to find out why I am so interested in that country. And travelling around it, I did find out! England is a place full of energy, history and references beyond London.

Presenting a great mix of culture and people - you just have to take the tube to listen to more than 3 different languages at the same time besides English, England is a fascinating place as every single town has its own characteristics and influences. London and its hectic lifestyle is opposed to Canterbury and both has nothing to do with Brighton, just to mention a few.

I stayed in Hostels during my whole trip and people in Hostels have a different energy. I met new friends: Sarah (Birmingham), Lindsay (Lancashire), Brad (Australia), Thu Ngyen (Vietnam), TG (China), Jessica, Nicky e Selina (London) without mentioning some very nice and friendly unknown I have talked to along the way.

My tour started in London and followed to: Kent (Leeds Castle), Canterbury, Brighton, Salisbury-Stonehenge, Bath, Cotswolds (Stow-on-the-Water, Lower Slaughter), Birmingham, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Liverpool, Manchester and York.

It was 20 days of an amazing trip. And the following pictures are a small part of my English Tour.

LONDRES / LONDON

Samuel Johnson, um escritor inglês disse: "Quando um homem está cansado de Londres, ele está cansado da vida". Concordo plenamente.

Fiquei uma semana em Londres e, além dos pontos turísticos obrigatórios - Torre de Londres, Parlamento Britânico, Museu Britânico, National Gallery, Hyde Park, Troca da Guarda, visitei também alguns pontos distintos como: Greenwich, Highgate, Museu de História Natural e claro alguns Pubs. Em um deles pude assistir à final da Copa da Uefa com Brad, no dia do seu aniversário, o qual comemoramos com 3 amigas inglesas.

E pude não apenas visitar, mas assistir a um show no fabuloso Royal Albert Hall. O show foi do Waterboys (pra quem não conhece, procure pela música "The Whole of the Moon"). Simplesmente demais!!! E entrar na Rough Trade, uma loja-gravadora de cds a qual lançou o ícone pop dos anos 80 - The Smiths!

Dica: Fiquei no Adamotel - apesar do nome...é um albergue. Limpo, organizado e com acesso à internet, restrito porém de graça. E fica perto do Sainsbury, um supermercado que foi companheiro na hora daquela fome e perto das estações de metrô Gloucester Road/Earl´s Court, excelente localização!
Outra dica - não deixe de ir ao mercado de Convent Garden, tomar umas cervejas no All bar One e ir pra uma baladinha no Sorocco e aproveite o som e caia na dança, no estilo Londrino!
E se quiser ver a Troca da Guarda, chegue com 1 hora de antecedência e tenha paciência.

Samuel Johnson, an English writer said: 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life" and I fully agree.

I stayed one week in London and besides the mandatory touristic places - Tower of London, British Parliament, British Museum, National Gallery, Hude Park, Changing of the Guards, I also visited some other interesting points: Greenwich, Highgate, Natural History Museum and of course, some Pubs. By the way, in one of them I could watch the Uefa final game - Liverpool vs Milan with Brad and celebrate his birthday together with 3 English girlfriends - Cheers Man!

And I could not only visit but also watch a gig at Royal Albert Hall an amazing theatre in front of Kensington Garden. The show was of Waterboys (for those who don´t know them, look for their famous song "The Whole of the Moon"). Fantastic!!! And I also could visit Rough Trade, a cd store/label responsible for launching The Smiths - an 80´s icon pop band.

Hint: I stayed at Adamotel, a hostel in Earl´s court. Clean, safe, organised and near Sainsbury supermarket, which helped me with some snacks and juices and close to Gloucester Road and Earl´s Court stations. Excelent location!
Another hint... don´t forget to visit Convent Garden market, get some pints at All bar One (by the way, it was here where we celebrated Brad´s birthday with Selina, Nicky and Jessica - hello everybody!) and go to dance at Sorocco!
And... if you want to see the Changing of the Guards, get there 1 hour earlier than the time and be patient!

LEEDS CASTLE

Após uma primeira semana intensa em Londres, comecei a percorrer o interior da Inglaterra por Kent, mais especificamente pelo Castelo de Leeds.O castelo é monumental, embora a decoração das salas não seja no mesmo nível do Castelo de Windsor, por exemplo. Porém a área na qual o Castelo se encontra é fantátisca. Um grande e agradável parque.Nesse dia, conheci Thu Ngyen, também conhecida por Ann, uma jornalista vietnamita com quem não apenas visitei o Castelo, mas com quem fiz amizade.

After a week living London environment, it was time to move to England´s countryside. And it started to Kent, Leeds Castle more precisely.The Castle is huge, although the decoration is not as glamourous as Windsor´s, for example. But, the park where the Castle was built in is unbelievable, really pleasant.On this day, I met Thu Ngyen, also known as Ann, a Vietnamese journalist whom I shared the visit at the Castle with and who became a special friend (Hi Ann!).

CANTERBURY

A primeira cidade depois de Londres...e não poderia ter sido melhor, com exceção da chuva que me acompanhou o dia todo.Canterbury tem uma grande relevância religiosa e se tornou uma cidade de peregrinação, não apenas por sua importância dentro da Igreja, mas porque St. Thomas foi assassinado e está enterrado na Catedral de Canterbury. Onde está seu corpo havia um sarcófago, destruido por ordem de Henrique VIII.
Uma aconchegante, simpática e que ainda hoje mantém forte traços de uma cidade medieval.

Canterbury was the first town I visited after leaving London and it couldn´t be better, except for the all day rain.Canterbury is an important town for the Christian Church in England and it became a pilgrimage site also because St. Thomas was murdered and buried here. On the place where his body lies, there was a shrine which was destroyed by the order of Henry VIII.
A pleasant and simpathetic town which preserves its Medieval environment.

BRIGHTON

Eu nunca imaginaria ver um lugar na Inglaterra como Brighton. A energia do lugar, o astral das pessoas na rua, nos pubs...simplesmente demais! Deve ser o efeito do mar, ainda que a praia não tenha areia, e sim pedras! E sem falar da arquitetura da cidade que é muito peculiar, com casas e prédios totalmente distintos dos vistos em Canterbury e Salisbury, por exemplo.
E que outro lugar melhor que Brighton para ter um palácio como o Royal Pavillion, suntuoso, luxuoso no melhor estilo do oriente.

Dica: vá tomar umas cervejas no St. Christopher - um pub+albergue em frente ao Pier, com uma galera animada e música ao vivo!

I have never thought visiting a city like Brighton in England. The energy of the city, the people´s mood on the streets or pubs were simply amazing! It must be the sea effect, even with stones on the beach instead of sand! And I must mention the architecture of the city with houses and buildings completely different from the ones in Canterbury or Salisbury, for example.
I couldn´t see anywhere else in England a palace like Royal Pavillion sumptuous on the best Oriental style.

Hint: go to St. Christopher to have some pints. It´s a pub+hostel in front of the Pier with nice atmosphere and live music.
