Chinchero

Chinchero foi o destino final do dia de visitas aos sítios arqueológicos de Cusco.

Aqui, na verdade não fomos visitar ruínas, ja que o vilarejo de Chinchero foi construída sobre as ruínas de uma cidade Inca, fomos sim visitar El Balcón del Inka, um grupo de artesãs que trabalham com lã de llama ou alpaca e que apresentam todas as etapas do processo: desde a limpeza da lã, a elaboração dos corantes (vale mencionar que elas mesmas preparam os corantes a partir de plantas, frutos e insetos), o preparo do fio e todos os objetos produzidos com essa lã.

Aqui, mais uma vez, o visual do local é impressionante e, mais impressionante ainda é a simpatia com que essas mulheres recebem os visitantes – muito alegres, divertidas, sempre com brincadeiras para os turistas – e a maneira ilustrativa e didática com que explicam cada passo do trabalho.

Um dia perfeito que não poderia se encerrar de maneira melhor, surpreendente, para dizer o mínimo.

Chinchero was the final destination of that visit day to the archeological sites in Cusco.

Here, in fact, we didn´t visit ruins, as the village of Chinchero was built over Inca ruins. We went to visit El Balcón del Inka, a group of craftswomen who work with llama or alpaca wool and they present all the phases of the process: cleaning the wool, pigment preparation (it is worth mentioning they prepare the pigment by themselves using plants, fruits or insects), thread preparation and all the products they can prepare with it.

Here is another place where the view is amazing, and even more impressive is how sympathetic are those women – they are funny, amusing – and it´s very didactic the way they explain their job.

A perfect day that ended the best way possible… impressive to say the least.

Ollantaytambo

Na parte da tarde, logo após o almoço, fomos para Ollantaytambo e foi surpreendente.

O estado de conservação dessas ruínas impressiona e deixa claro como era uma cidade Inca. Como exemplo, ainda hoje o aqueduto construído naquela época ainda está em funcionamento.

Ollantaytambo era um povoado Inca, local de armazenagem de alimentos e ponto de parada dos viajantes, fica entre Valle Sagrado e Chinchero, que foi meu último destino em Cusco naquele dia.

In the afternoon, right after lunch time, we went to Ollantaytambo, and it was impressive.

This ruins are well preserved and it is possible to see how a Inca town was. Just as an example, the aqueduct built at that time is still being used.

Ollantaytambo was a small Inca village used for food storage and a place for the travellers to stay and get a rest. It is located between Valle Sagrado and Chinchero, which was my last destination in Cusco that day.

Valle Sagrado

Em Cusco visitei 3 sítios arqueológicos: Valle Sagrado, Ollantaytambo e Chinchero. Cada um com suas pecualiridades bem definidas e marcantes.

Sem dúvida, um belíssimo teaser do que ainda estaria reservado para minha jornada até Machu Picchu.

Vou começar pelo Valle Sagrado, que leva esse nome devido a fertilidade da terra naquele local, e está localizado próximo ao Rio Urubamba, que vai formar o rio Amazonas.

Aqui as ruínas não são a única atração. O visual da região também é incrível e sem dúvida vale a pena conhecer.

In Cusco I´ve visited 3 archeological sites: Valle Sagrado, Ollantaytambo and Chichero, each one with its own impressive characteristics.

There is no doubt that it was a great “teaser” for what was reserved for me during that journey to Machu Picchu.

I´ll start with Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley) which received this name because of the fertility of the soil is located near Urubamba river, which is part of Amazon river.

Here the ruins are not the only attraction. The view of the region is amazing and it must be visited.

Cusco e as Igrejas / Cusco and the Churches

A cidade de Cusco me encantou desde o primeiro momento. Aconchegante, atraente, Cusco foi a capital do Império Inca e, por isso, apresenta uma grande concentração de igrejas católicas em seu centro histórico, construídas pelos espanhóis para “marcar território” na sua conquista da América.

Cusco é a cidade base da trilha de Salcantay para Machu Picchu, mas não apenas marca o início da aventura. Ali também se pode visitar alguns sítios arqueológicos bem interessantes como: Vale Sagrado, Ollantaytambo e Chinchero.

Esses passeios ao redor de Cusco estarão em outro post, aqui estão as fotos da cidade – em especial suas igrejas, suas ruazinhas estreitas (chamadas de jirón em espanhol) – e um pouco da sua atmosfera.

Vale ressaltar a excelente recepção que tive ao chegar em Cusco. Fui recebido pelo pessoal da Qori Travel, a agência local cuja guia Silvia me acompanhou por todos esses passeios, me deu dicas incríveis e me contou com ricos detalhes a história dos sítios arqueológicos e da cultura Inca.

Uma dessas dicas foi o museu Inka em Cusco. Espetacular! Muito bem organizado, apresenta uma cronologia da história Inca trazendo peças artesanais, mapas, vestimentas e múmias.

Cusco town enchanted me since the my arrival. Cosy and attractive, Cusco was the capital of Inca Empire and, because of that, there are many catholic churches in its Historical Centre, which were built by the Spanishes in order to emphasise their territorial presence during America´s colonisation.

Cusco is the base town for Salcantay trail to Machu Picchu, but it´s not only the milestone for the beginning of the adventure. Around it we can visit some very interesting archeological sites such as: Vale Sagrado, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.

These visits around Cusco will be presented in another post, here are the pictures of the town itself – its churches, its narrow streets (called jirón in spanish) – and a little of its atmosphere.

I have to mention the great reception I´ve got when I arrived in Cusco by Qori Travel team and by Silvia, the tour guide who followed me through all the journeys, gave me great hints and told me the history of the archeological sites and Inca culture with great details.

One of these hints was Inka Museum. Spectacular! Very well organised, it brings the time line of Inca history presenting handcraft pieces, maps, clothes and mummies.

If you plan to visit Cusco, I do recommed the agency, the guide and the museum.
